Sebastian Chivers is a Director of The Renewables Consulting Group, and has served as Chief Executive Officer since early 2015. Based from London and New York, Sebastian is responsible for RCG’s global strategy, expansion and the development of enhanced capabilities and products for its clients. He also serves as Co-Regional Head for the Americas region.
In his 15 years in the renewable energy industry, Sebastian has advised clients in strategy, project development, transactions, and project execution. He has worked closely with utilities and developers, private equity, industrial clients, and the federal government for wind and emerging energy technologies. Prior to his current role, Sebastian was a Director at an international renewable energy consulting, testing, inspection and verification corporation, where he served as President for their North America business.
Sebastian frequently speaks at renewable energy gatherings, and he is a member of the U.S. Department of Energy Wind Vision Offshore Taskforce. He studied business administration and management on the advanced leadership programme at Cambridge University.
Dr. Lee Clarke is a Director and Chief Operating Officer at The Renewables Consulting Group. He has more than 20 years’ experience in the energy industry, and a broad range of general management, consultancy, commercial, operational, and strategy experience.
Dr. Clarke served as Project Director for Forewind, the international joint venture developing the Dogger Bank offshore wind concession, securing 4.8 GW of capacity consents. Prior to Forewind, Dr. Clarke was Senior Corporate Strategy Manager at RWE, and has held numerous senior management roles within RWE, E.ON, and TXU Europe, where he was Head of Production Planning. Prior to this, Dr. Clarke was Head of Supply, Transport and Markets at the International Energy Agency (IEA). In addition to renewable energy, he has extensive experience in power generation, energy markets, energy retail, and mergers and acquisitions.
Dr. Clarke holds a BSc in Geology, an MSc in Environmental Impact Assessment and a PhD in Geology and Geochemistry.
Doug Pfeister is a Director and Co-Regional Head for the Americas based out of New York.
From 2010 to 2013, Doug was Senior Vice President at the Offshore Wind Development Coalition focusing on federal regulatory affairs and then served in 2014 as Acting President.
Previously, from 2006-2010 he managed siting and permitting activities at NRG Bluewater Wind, where he authored major public filings and joined in negotiating the first US offshore wind PPA, in Delaware. Also at Bluewater, Doug led development of an offshore wind project in New Jersey (NJ) and advocated for progressive policies, including the 2010 NJ Offshore Wind Economic Development Act, one of the most significant offshore wind laws in the country. Before joining Bluewater Wind, he worked for a major energy consulting firm, and prior to that with GE.
Doug earned his BA with Honors in Economics and International Relations from Stanford University, and his Masters in Environmental Management from Yale. Doug currently serves as Co-Chair of the Pocantico Agenda on Offshore Wind.
Alan Chivers is a Director of The Renewables Consulting Group and has over 25 years of experience in renewable energy. He was one of the pioneers of wind energy in the UK and Europe. In 1994 he founded PMSS, one of Europe’s first consulting firms focused exclusively on renewable energy, where he served as Chief Executive Officer. Under Alan’s leadership, the firm grew to become one of the world’s foremost renewable energy consulting firms. PMSS was acquired by the TÜV SÜD group in 2012.
Mr. Chivers has worked with virtually all-major players in the global renewable energy community, and is recognized as a leading independent authority in offshore safety and risk management.
Mr. Chivers holds a BA in Earth Sciences and Oceanography, is a Fellow of The Association of Project Safety, Chairman of the AWEA Offshore Safety Committee and is a published author and regular speaker at industry forums. Mr. Chivers also serves as a Director of RenewableUK with responsibility for Health & Safety
Elaine Greig is an experienced Chartered Engineer and has spent the last 14 years working in wind farm development, engineering, financing, construction and operations. Her key skills are in commercial project management, at all stages of the project lifecycle, and strategic analysis and problem-solving.
Previously, Elaine was a Director and Head of Offshore Renewables at DNV GL, covering wind, wave and tidal technologies. Her team worked for all major utilities as well as independent developers and supply chain, advising on optimised engineering design of renewable infrastructure projects. Prior to the merger of DNV and GL, Elaine was Head of Offshore Wind at GL Garrad Hassan.
Before consultancy, she worked at Vattenfall and was most recently an Offshore Wind Project Director, responsible for the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre in Aberdeen and Head of UK Construction. Before Vattenfall, she was Grid Connections & Electrical Manager at Amec Wind.
Elaine holds BSc and MEng degrees in Engineering from Manchester University, and an MBA from Durham University.
Dr. Steve Freeman has over 20 years’ of achievement in environmental management, development and commercialisation of energy projects globally. Dr. Freeman is a Director and global head of the firm’s public sector practice.
Dr. Freeman has held a number of senior board level positions within industry, he has in-depth knowledge of environment planning and policy, and an excellent understanding of the strategic and commercial challenges associated with delivery of offshore power projects. Formerly a regulator with a career in the oil & gas industry, he has played key roles in major infrastructure projects, whilst working with many leading energy firms.
He is Chair of Defra’s Offshore Industry Liaison Group and previously Vice-Chair of the RenewableUK Consents & Licensing Group. Dr. Freeman has a PhD in Marine Ecology and currently undertaking a LLM in Energy Law & Policy
Gareth Lewis is a qualified marine biologist, underwater technologist, commercial diver and yachtmaster. A highly technically skilled and successful renewables practitioner, with 24 years’ experience in marine and onshore developments and 15 years in the offshore renewable energy sector.
Demonstrable strategic vision and leadership skills, with a proven track record of building and motivating high performing teams. Mr Lewis’s most recent role was Head of Offshore Development and Safety representing SSE in the Forewind Consortium, which successfully secured the largest offshore wind farm consent to date totalling 4.8GW for the Dogger Bank offshore wind farms.
Mr Lewis has previously been Director with Seagreen Wind Energy and Brims Tidal Array and is currently Chair of the RenewableUK Consents & Licensing Group.
Dan Pearson has more than 16 years’ experience in renewable energy development, financing and construction both in the UK and overseas with significant technical understanding and commercial project finance experience.
Mr Pearson was most recently a member of the executive management team at Atlantis Resources, and Chief Executive Officer of MeyGen Limited. Prior to Atlantis, Mr Pearson worked at GE Capital where he was an Associate Director leading due diligence, deal structuring, commercial negotiations and asset management for wind, solar and hydro energy investments throughout Europe. Before that, he was Commercial Leader for Europe and Development Manager for GE Wind Energy.
Mr Pearson holds a degree in Marine Geography, and a Masters in Marine Engineering.
Prior to the forming of RCG, he established and led a renowned team of safety, quality and marine specialists at renewables consultancy PMSS, where he was a founding member of the company and subsequently a board Director. Following a merge with international services corporation the TÜV SÜD group, Mr Chivers served as a Director and QHSE Services Lead, for the Global Business Line Wind.
Mr Chivers has worked in the roles of Health & Safety Manager, Design Safety Advisor (and CDM Regulations in the UK) and Safety and Compliance Advisor for an extensive range of project developers, utilities, contractors, turbine manufacturers and blue-chip organisations. His thoroughgoing experience covers the full renewable energy spectrum and includes onshore and offshore wind, wave and tidal energy, solar and general construction.
Mr Chivers holds a BSc in Technology and Product Design. He also maintains professional membership with associations for project safety, occupational safety & health and project construction.
